Continuing Education (CE) Credits

UMSSW-CPE is authorized by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors to sponsor Category B continuing professional education. The Integrative Health and Wellness Certificate Program meets the requirements for 60 Category II CEUs for professional counselors. Once an enrolled student completes the program, they will need to submit an unofficial transcript and pay $75 in order to receive the CEUs. They can email the transcript to: cpe@ssw.umaryland.edu and include their name and phone number. The CPE office will then call the student to take the payment over the phone and then email the CEU certificate. 

Psychologists in Maryland, Virginia, and DC can received CE credits for completion of this program. Psychologists in other states will need to check with their Psychological Association or Board to determine whether they can also earn CE credits.

UMSSW-CPE is authorized by the Board of Social Work Examiners in Maryland to sponsor social work continuing education programs and maintains full responsibility for this program. The Thanatology Certificate Program meets the requirements for 60 Category II CEUs for social workers. Once an enrolled student completes the program, they will need to submit an unofficial transcript and pay $75 in order to receive the CEUs. They can email the transcript to: cpe@ssw.umaryland.edu and include their name and phone number. The CPE office will then call the student to take the payment over the phone and then email the CEU certificate. 

Nurses may receive 90 contact hours upon successful completion of the Thanatology Certificate Program (i.e., all 12 credits). Successful completion of the Certificate Program for Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) is demonstrated by achieving a B average in each of the four courses, completion of the four end-of-course evaluation surveys, and the granting of the Thanatology Certificate by the Graduate School. Partial credit is not provided. Participants receive a CNE certificate via email from the University of Maryland School of Nursing approximately 2-4 weeks after submitting their request, payment of $45, and verification from the Program Director of successful program completion.

The Association for Death Education and Counseling® (ADEC) has deemed the Thanatology Certificate Program as counting toward the continuing education requirements for the ADEC Certification in Thanatology and Fellowship in Thanatology programs. Each course credit is awarded 15 contact hours. As such, the 12-credit Thanatology Certificate Program is equivalent to 180 contact hours.
