Inclusive Science Communication Starter Kit
The Inclusive Science Communication (ISC) Starter Kit was published in 2021, under the leadership of Dr. Sunshine Menezes, the head of the Metcalf Institute at the University of Rhode Island. The ISC Starter Kit is a treasure trove of resources around equity, diversity, social justice, and inclusion in science communication. The guiding principles of ISC are its key traits on intentionality, reciprocity, and reflexivity. These key traits do not just guide our actual communication products, but the process that we engage in in developing and executing our science communication. The kit also provides tangible techniques and strategies to apply ISC core values and traits to our work. SciComm students in the 22/23 cohort used this kit a part of their coursework and have commented on how it has helped them see the central role that equity, inclusion, and diversity play in their own SciComm practice. Check it out and see for yourself!
