Application Information
The Alicia and Yaya Initiative in Global Aging Research is a University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Graduate School program of research, service, and teaching in the fields of gerontology and aging.
Leveraging collaborations with the University of Costa Rica (UCR), the Initiative supports UMB and UCR scholars to study and learn together through fellowships, collaborative learning opportunities, symposia, seed funding, and other means of financial support.
The Fellows program provides full funding support to UMB and UCR faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students who want to engage in collaborative research in the area of aging. Faculty can apply to go from 2 weeks to 6 months. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows can apply to spend between 1 month to 6 months on site with a preference for 2+ months to maximize the fellowship experience. The initiative covers epidemiological, clinical, psychosocial, legal, policy and bench science research related to aging.
Funding includes a stipend to cover salary and lodging, travel costs, registration in courses at the UMB Graduate School (when applicable), and participation in scholarly conferences. You must be a current faculty, staff, or student at UMB or Universidad de Costa Rica to apply. NOTE: each placement is curated based on the applicant’s research interests and goals.
The Fellowship application includes the following:

Applicants will then have a brief interview by Zoom with leadership.
