Eric J. Ley, MD, FACS, is a surgeon specializing in trauma, acute care surgery, and surgical critical care at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where he is a Professor of Surgery and Chief of Critical Care. Dr. Ley’s research focus includes human factors in surgery, serving as coeditor for a textbook on this subject, reducing venous thromboembolism after trauma, and the mechanisms for secondary injury after trauma, including the role of the beta-adrenergic response in deteriorating patients. Dr. Ley has authored more than 250 manuscripts, four textbooks, and four patents. He is a member of the National Committee on Trauma and is on the editorial board for the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.
