Bio
Amar Deshwar, MD, is an Assistant Professor at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He is an attending physician in the Critical Care Resuscitation Unit (CCRU), a specialized intensive care unit focused on the management of patients with time-sensitive, high-acuity critical illness.
Dr. Deshwar completed his undergraduate training at the University of Calgary and earned his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident, followed by fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center through the Cardiac Surgery Critical Care pathway.
His clinical interests and expertise include advanced resuscitation and the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). He also participates in advanced pre-hospital trauma care through the GO-TEAM at Shock Trauma.
Dr. Deshwar has worked in a range of international and resource-limited settings, including clinical and educational roles in India, Ecuador, Nicaragua, rural Alaska, and rural New Mexico. These experiences have shaped his interest in adaptable, systems-based approaches to critical care delivery across diverse environments.
