Bio

David J. Bunnell, PhD, MSHS, PA-C, DFAAPA is an Assistant Professor in the Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) program at the University of Maryland School of Graduate Studies and President-Elect of the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA). A clinician-educator and researcher, Dr. Bunnell focuses on competency-based medical education and the integration of artificial intelligence in healthcare and health professions training.

He has extensive clinical experience in cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and critical care, and his scholarship spans AI-enabled learning, PA workforce development, and statewide program evaluations. At UMSGS, he teaches and directs core DMSc courses and also teaches in the Master of Science in Health Science (MSHS) program, contributing to faculty development and interprofessional initiatives that advance PA education, leadership, and digital health innovation.
