Bio

James Wright has taught English composition, English as a Second Language (ESL), literature, and creative writing in community centers, public schools, and universities in Japan, China, Malaysia, and the United States. As a university multilingual writing specialist, he focuses on translingual pedagogy and curriculum development, global literacies, and the politics of multilinguality. His current research interests include the neurology of multilinguality and university contingent educator advocacy.

In the UMB Writing Center, James serves as the assistant to Director Isabell May, trains consultants to work with writers from diverse backgrounds, and supports these writers through individual consultation and advocacy for university policies and practices consistent with the multilingual realities of learning and working in the 21st century. He lives with his spouse Tania and daughter Daniela in Baltimore City, where they speak Spanish, English, and Japanese, insist on immigrant American rights, and celebrate Ecuadorian-inspired food, music, and dance.
