Bio
Dr. Cestone is the Assistant Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs, Co-Director of Leaders in Education: Academy of Presidential Scholars (LEAPS), and an Associate Professor in the Graduate School at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Dr. Cestone has created and led a variety of initiatives in graduate and professional education and faculty development. Dr. Cestone served as the inaugural HPE Program Director, overseeing curriculum development and launching of the HPE doctoral and master's programs in 2020 and 2021. Simultaneously, she served as the inaugural Executive Director of UMB's Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning in 2019.
Dr. Cestone received her PhD in educational psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, where she conducted research on faculty learning communities, instructional methods, and interprofessional education. Dr. Cestone also holds a master's degree in human and organizational learning from the George Washington University. She spent nine years in basic science and medical education and served as an associate dean of assessment and evaluation for one of the largest medical programs in the US. Her research interests are in program evaluation, assessment, and curriculum and instructional design involving active learning methods. Dr. Cestone participates in the American Educational Research Association, serving as past Secretary for Division I, Education in the Professions.
