In today’s data-driven healthcare landscape, clinical decisions depend on the intelligent use of information. For today’s healthcare professionals, the ability to harness and interpret clinical data is essential to delivering effective, forward-thinking care. The Certificate and MS in Clinical Informatics are designed to help professionals bridge the gap between healthcare and data science. You’ll develop the skills to analyze information collected by health systems, transforming raw data into actionable insights that improve patient outcomes and support smarter, system-level decisions. Offered by the University of Maryland School of Graduate Studies, the Clinical Informatics program features faculty from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the University of Maryland Baltimore (UMBC) with expertise in computer science, informatics, data science, and epidemiology. Students learn the fundamentals of clinical informatics and how to apply it in real-world settings, guided by leaders across disciplines.

Program Overview

Our program serves a wide range of healthcare professionals, including physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, pharmacists, biologists, computer scientists, and others in the healthcare field. It is a collaborative effort between the University of Maryland School of Graduate Studies and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). The core faculty consists of board-certified clinical informatics physicians from the School of Medicine, supported by experts in computer science, data science, and epidemiology. The program includes two 12-credit graduate certificates in clinical informatics and data science, complemented by hands-on practicums and conferences. Graduates may be eligible for AMIA Health Informatics Certification. All courses are delivered online.
