Ph.D. Degree Program
Admissions are open to current residents in the 3-year certificate residency program in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology (https://www.dental.umaryland.edu/admissions/programs/postgraduate-dental/oral-and-maxillofacial-pathology/). Exceptional residents in year 2 of their certificate residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology who want to pursue a combined PhD must apply by the end of the Fall Semester of their second year. PhD program applications are made through the Program Director. Applicants will be considered and determination for enrollment in the combined program will be made via a departmental (Department of Oncology and Diagnostic Sciences, University of Maryland School of Dentistry) admissions committee. There is no guarantee for enrollment in the combined program. The determination will be based on several factors including availability of a funded research PI mentor and the ability of the resident to adequately meet the demands of both the intensive Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology residency program and the PhD. If the departmental admissions committee deem the certificate resident suitable, the exceptional resident will be provided an opportunity to combine their residency with a PhD.
Please NOTE: Applicants must first apply to the 3-year certificate residency program in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology through this website: https://www.dental.umaryland.edu/admissions/programs/postgraduate-dental/oral-and-maxillofacial-pathology/. If accepted into the residency program, a combined PhD can be pursued in the second year of the residency program for residents who meet the above criteria.
