Become a Mentor
What is The Grid Mentor Program?
The Grid Mentor program connects University of Maryland, Baltimore's (UMB) alumni, entrepreneurs, and investors with our passionate, talented student entrepreneurs. According to Entrepreneur magazine, 70% of business owners who are mentored see their businesses live past five years. The Grid's goal is to build a vibrant start-up ecosystem on the UMB campus and Baltimore City. We believe that The Grid Mentor Program will strengthen collaboration and build relationships. Grid Mentor may be an UMB alumni, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, experts, or investors that have a strong interest in entrepreneurship or paying it forward from their success. A mentor must be willing to help UMB students by sharing their knowledge, expertise and networks. Grid Mentors can be experts in management, business strategy, marketing, product development, etc. Our mentees are working to solve health and social problems through the creation of IT applications, medical devices, drug discoveries, and much more. When you become a Grid Mentor, you will build your own personal network and be involved in new products and technologies at the UMB campus.
How does The Grid Mentor Program work?
The Grid staff will match up mentors with students depending on the needs of the company. The Grid will facilitate the relationship, but the strength and goals of the relationship are up to each start-up. Each mentorship relationship will last 6-12 months and will meet face-to-face for one to three hours each month where you both will set out measurable goals. Grid staff members will check in periodically to ensure a healthy, productive relationship.
