This unique 12-credit graduate concentration will educate students to engage with and respond to civic, social, environmental, medical, and economic challenges at the local, national, and global levels.
Students will learn how to search, interpret, and evaluate the medical and public health literature; including qualitative and quantitative studies. They will examine and critically appraise healthcare delivery systems and health policy at the local and global level; discuss and inform health care delivery, patient safety, quality, and risk management; and articulate and explain principles and practice of medical and public health ethics.
The Health Science concentration cannot be pursued as a standalone certificate.
Students will be prepared for employment in local, state and government planning and policymaking, community development and advocacy, nonprofit and for-profit leadership, community managers, city and urban planning, entrepreneurs and business owners, international business and peace-making, and health and social research.
Health Science is a 12-credit, four-course concentration is offered in an asynchronous, 100% online environment. This means that we offer maximum flexibility to meet the needs of working professionals. There are no online meetings or set times when you'll need to log in; just submit your coursework before the posted deadline, and check back in for feedback from your instructors and classmates.
As a student, you will acquire expertise in health science. Your classmates will most likely be practicing professionals with a health, scientific, or medical background who are employed or seeking employment in positions requiring or related to this specialization.

Program Completion Timeline
- All four courses will be offered at least once each year to enable you to complete the program within one year.
- Participants choose four courses from the course list.
- After the completion of the coursework students will transition into the MS in Health and Social Innovation program.
- Although most students complete the program within one year, you will be allowed up to three years to complete the program.
Interested in a Master's Degree? ▾
The Health Science concentration coursework may be pursued ahead of the Masters in Health and Social Innovation curriculum, or concurrently. After completion of coursework students will transition into the Master of Science in Health and Social Innovation. The 36-credit MS Health and Social Innovation program is available as a hybrid degree combining elements of online and in-class learning and can be completed by a working professional in as little as 24 months. Upon the successful completion of the concentration, all 12 of the credits will be transferred to the MS Health and Social Innovation program and the GRE requirement is waived. This means that when you finish your concentration coursework, you'll be 24 credits away from a Master's degree!
