On September 10, Shani Fleming, MS, MPH, PA-C, represented the PALLA research team at the PAEA Town Hall “Hot Topic” exploring the impact of the entry-level doctorate in health professions. The PALLA research team, also including Dr. Gerald Kayingo, Dr. Karen Gordes, Dr. Violet Kulo and Dr. Jim Cawley, was one of five teams awarded a PAEA research grant to inform the organization’s policy decisions on this important topic.

The Physician Assistant Leadership and Learning Academy (PALLA) is a state-wide initiative led by the University of Maryland, Baltimore to advance PA education, research, and policy.

The Faculty Fellowship program provides PA clinicians with experiences and training to prepare them to become part of the PA faculty workforce. The program is designed to help each fellow build a teaching and scholarship portfolio.
The PALLA Innovation Award and Scholarship
PALLA is proud to announce the launch of the PALLA Innovation Award and Scholarship.
With this team-based award, PALLA will recognize forward-thinking PA students, faculty, staff, and clinicians who will propose an innovative solution to a healthcare or health education challenge.
Teams must include at least one PA student. Additionally, teams can include any combination of PA faculty, staff, or practicing PA from Maryland. Teams can also include relevant experts related to the specifics of the proposal.
This Year’s Challenge
Proposals must address the current challenge of finding and retaining suitable clinical training sites and preceptors for PA programs.
Finalists will pitch their idea to an audience of healthcare education and innovation experts. The winning team will receive an award to be divided equally between the student team members in the form of a $1000 scholarship.
