This is the most common form of student support. Graduate assistants are employment-based appointments where students, in exchange for their service, receive a stipend, tuition remission, and an institutional contribution toward the health insurance program available only to graduate assistants.

Criterion of appointment:
Pre-Candidacy - Graduate student in good standing who lacks previous teaching or research experience.
Post-Candidacy - Graduate student in good standing who has passed the departmental preliminary exam and has been formally admitted to candidacy for the doctoral degree.

Is Tuition Covered
Yes. Tuition remission covers 10 credits of tuition every fall and spring semesters. Summer tuition is charged at the in-state rate.
