President's Entrepreneurial Fellowship
One of UMB's top priorities is commercializing innovative technologies discovered by UMB faculty into new therapeutics, vaccines, diagnostics, medical devices, software solutions, and research tools.
The President's Entrepreneurial Fellowship is a new initiative designed to give UMB students hands-on training and experience in commercializing health science discoveries made by UMB faculty. The Fellows will work together as an inter-disciplinary team to bring several of UMB's most promising technologies to market.
The Fellowship is managed by UM Ventures, which is part of the UMB Office of Research and Development. UM Ventures staff, UMB entrepreneurial faculty, and private-sector entrepreneurs will train the Fellows to evaluate technologies and market opportunities; identify funding sources and strategic partners; and develop business, legal and regulatory strategies. The Fellows will use this training to help UM Ventures commercialize UMB-owned inventions.

The School of Medicine offers a comprehensive science communication internship. Effective communication skills are invaluable to biomedical researchers because every scientist must advocate for her or his own work. To succeed scientists must convey their ideas and discoveries to a variety of audiences—review committees, journal editors, colleagues, collaborators, and non-scientists. Researchers who can tell compelling stories about their work are more likely to receive grant funding, get published, and be seen as experts in their fields. As with any skill, effective science communication must be practiced, refined and honed.
The Graduate Program in Life Sciences (GPILS), the Office of Postdoctoral Scholars (OPS) and the Office of Public Affairs & Communications (OPAC) in the Medical School are excited to announce an Internship in Science Communications for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows.
