Winter 2017 Laurels and Awards
Congratulations to all students who have recently received awards, fellowships, grants and other honors! Please see their names and achievements below.
GSA Fall Professional Development Award Winners:
Judith Leitch (Social Work): Leitch attended the Council of Social Work Education Annual Program Meeting.
Yanfeng Xu (Social Work): Yanfeng attended the Research Summer Institute at the Kempe Center at the University of Colorado.
Posters and Presentations:
Susannah Shissler (Molecular Microbiology and Immunology): Sussannah was selected to give an oral presentation based on her abstract for the 10th CDI-MR1 workshop, and won the AAI Young Investigator Award for her presentation titled, "Defective NKT cell development in BRCA-1 mutant mice."
Brian Johnson (OTR/L, PhD Candidate, Physical Rehabilitation Science): Brian won the 2017 Fletcher H. McDowell Award for the best clinical science abstract at the American Society of Neurorehabilitation (ASNR) annual meeting. His poster was entitled, "Use of targeted memory reactivation during a daytime nap to enhance sensorimotor skill performance in healthy young adults."
Julia Peter (Toxicology): Julia was awarded a talk at the Baltimore Brain Series at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). Her presentation was titled, "The PARK10 gene USP24 regulates autophagy through the ULK1 and type III PI3K-kinase pathway."
Sarah Metzbower (Neuroscience): Sarah was also awarded a talk at the Baltimore Brain Series at NIDA. Her presentation was titled, "The role of synaptic nanostructure in NMDA receptor activation."
Other Awards and Honors:
Eryn Dixon (Toxicology): Eryn had her image selected as the cover of Nature Reviews Nephrology for the 2018 calendar year. Her cover image will first appear in the January 2018 issue.
Amanda Labuza (Neuroscience): Amanda was chosen as an "Annual Meeting Blogger" for the Society for Neuroscience this year.
Eric Lumsden: Eric was also selected as an "Annual Meeting Blogger" for the Society for Neuroscience this year.
