Epidemiology of Aging Fellowship The National Research Service Award has awarded the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine a training grant in the epidemiology of aging. The objective of this training program is to provide predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows with the education and skills to conduct original, independent research on the prevention of late life disability and functional decline. Emphasis is on the four areas of faculty expertise and interdisciplinary research of musculoskeletal disorders, cardiovascular diseases, women’s health, and long-term care. The fellowship will enable trainees to master a core curriculum in epidemiology and biostatistics and become knowledgeable about the basic biological and psychosocial processes of aging which are fundamental to gerontology. They will also become expert in at least one area used for the prevention of disability and functional decline in the elderly, contribute to a research team under the supervision of mentors, show capacity to conduct independent research, and prepare for a career in which the trainee will make a major contribution to maintaining the health and lifestyle of an aging population.
