Schedule Adjustment Procedures

Add and Drop
To change registration (add or drop), students must complete and turn in an official change in registration form. Graduate students in nursing make schedule changes in Admissions and Enrollment Management, School of Nursing, first floor. Doctoral students in social work make schedule changes in the School of Social Work, room 1W100. All other graduate students turn in their forms to Graduate Enrollment Affairss, 515 Lombard Building, second floor.

The last day a student can add a course is one week after instruction begins. After this date, no course can be added without a signed change in registration form and written permission of the dean. The last day a student can drop a course without penalty of failure (F) is eight weeks after instruction begins. This requires program approval.

Cancellation or Leave of Absence
Students who register and decide not to attend the university must notify their program and the Graduate School in writing before the first day of classes. If the student plans to resume studies later, he or she must also obtain permission for a leave of absence from the respective program and the Graduate School each semester and session for which leave is requested. If a request for cancellation is not received by 4:30 p.m. on the last day before instruction begins, the university will assume the student plans to attend and accept financial obligation.

Withdrawal
After instruction begins, students who wish to cancel their registration must submit an application for withdrawal to the Graduate School. Students are liable for all charges applicable at the time of withdrawal. Any student compelled to leave the university before the conclusion of the semester or session must file an application for withdrawal, bearing the proper signatures, with the Graduate School. A withdrawal is not official until this is done. A student who withdraws during the semester or session and does not file an application for withdrawal will receive marks of failure (F) in all courses and will forfeit the right to a refund. If the student plans to resume his or her study later, he or she must obtain permission for a leave of absence from the program and the Graduate School.

Student UseR Friendly System
Students may now view their registration, grades, account, and financial aid information on the Student UseR Friendly System Web site. SURFS replaces the Student Electronic Access System page maintained by Records and Registration.

Refund of Tuition and Fees Upon Withdrawal
Students who withdraw from all classes in any one semester or session will be credited with tuition refunds* as follows:

On or before first day of classes: 100 percent
First 10 percent of term: 90 percent
11 to 25 percent of term: 50 percent
26 to 50 percent of term: 25 percent
After 50 percent of term: no refund

*Determined each semester and session by Student Accounting.
