| About the Graduate School Graduate studies began at the Baltimore campus of the University of Maryland in 1917. Today, the University of Maryland Graduate School, Baltimore (UMGSB) offers 32 master's and doctoral degree programs in health, physical, biomedical, medical, and social sciences. The Graduate School offers joint degrees with the University's professional schools including MD/PhD, DDS/PhD, and PharmD/PhD programs. The Graduate School also coordinates the interinstitutional studies in biochemistry, gerontology, neuroscience, and toxicology with other University System of Maryland graduate programs. UMGSB provides an exciting environment for graduate students to meet the challenges of advanced study. Graduate students work alongside seasoned faculty and scholars in groundbreaking research. These efforts supported by over $410 million in research grants and contracts for fiscal year 2005 are jointly undertaken by the University of Maryland Medical Center, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Institute for Human Virology, the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute and others. | | |
